Dec 27, 2010, Historically Gold is considered as international currency and safe heaven as it will not loose its value like currency. From investment perspective, when people are panic over greenback or euro or rupees, then they will switch to Gold. Majority of portfolio managers will have gold as one of their position as it helps them for liquidity when they are in margin calls.
Excellent Gold buying opportunities will not lost more than a couple of weeks, perhaps days. If we miss it, then we may have to wait for years, even sometimes decades

India - Nifty to be highly volatile and then bear market to begin
Dec 14, 2010, Nifty Closed today at 5944.10 down by 6.2% from its recent annual high of 6338.50.
Indian Stock Market is getting more attention worldwide and increased fund flow from foreign investors and hedge funds. This shows that Nifty is in the topping process and stock prices to be highly volatile.
As many investors and foreign hedge funds are eagar to put money into indian market, they are waiting for a pullback. On Each Pull back, we can expect new money to get into Indian Market and it will cause a huge volatility in the next 3-4 months.

A Safe Play - Buying US Treasuries with protective put option
December 14, 2010, As of today Dow Jones Index (DJIA) set a new Annual High of 11514.08 and closed at 11476.54. With many analysts and main stream media projecting stock market bull view into 2011 as bond yield sours in the recent weeks, it is a very good time to long US treasuries. To limit the downside risk to meet the extreme conditions, have protective put option.
Buying Long Dated US Treasuries (TLT) along with protective put option is a very good investment for conservative investors. This is the price as of close of Dec 14, 2010 excluding commissions.
TLT 100 Shares: US$ 9214.00

Trade Silver Option Strip

Sell Indian Rupees to Buy US Dollars because of deflation rather inflation
I have written an artcile on "Sell Indian Rupees to Buy US Dollars because of deflation rather inflation".
Due to the expectation of increasing inflation in US, people are dumping the dollars and move on to other currencies. As of now, do we have inflation so far in the past two years? Sep 19, 2010, CBOE - Volatility Index (VIX) closed at 22.81 and S&P 500 index 1125.59 on Friday Sep 17, 2010. This low level of fear gauge giving as a sell signal and to go long on bear ETFs.
From Aug 26, 2010, Dow Jones was up on 12 sessions out of 15 sessions. NYSE Volume is still at low levels about 30% below so far in the month of september. For example, if we take Bank of America (NYSE:BAC), the 10 days average volume is at 132 million shares which is about 1.31% of total shares issued. TBT is a buy
Hi All,
Aug 19, 2010, TLT - iShares Barclays 20+ Yr Treas.Bond closed today at 106.16 up by more than 5% in the last 5 trading session. I think market is over reacting and buying more long dated Treasuries. But we are no where near a bubble.
However due to the recent surge in long dated Treasuries, the bear fund on long dated Treasuries are becoming very attractive.
TBT closed today at 31.62 and TMV closed today at 34.40. Both are OK to start buying. Even it may go lower as equity correction is not yet complete, it is good to start accumulating shares of TBT or TMV.

More ETFs needed in India
Hi All,
I have written an article on "More ETFs needed in India".
In January 2002, NSE launched trading of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). There are ETFs such as iPath MSCI India ETN (INP), WisdomTree India Earnings Fund (EPI), PowerShares India Portfolio (PIN) are tracking Indian Stock Marker for foreign investors. Only Benchmark Mutual Fund offers a couple of ETFs traded in NSE. Surprisingly there were not much ETFs introduced for trading in NSE in the last couple of years. I expect to see more demand from retail investors in India for ETFs.

Medical Insurance - COBRA
Hi All,
I have written an article on COBRA coverage on medical insurance.
In United States, medical insurances are sponsored mostly by employers as a group. Employers will pay 50% of the insurance cost for full time employees and employees need to spend the rest. If you spend $500 per month for medical insurance, then employer will sponsor another $500 towards your medical insurance. If you are a consultant, your employer may not cover any portion and you need to spend 100% of medical insurance cost, even if you participate in employer sponsored group plan. That's how the system works.

Understanding Gas Prices
Hi All,
I have written an artcile on "Understanding Gas Prices".
As the gas prices are traded in the future market in the exchanges, we may think that the gas price per gallon might be consistent across all the states in USA. Nevertheless the opposite is true. If you live in Alaska, Georgia, Wyoming, New Jersey, S. Carolina, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, New Mexico, Arizona, Virginia, New Hampshire, you can be happy that you will be paying less gas price per gallon compared to the people living in other states. If you live California, New York, Hawaii, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington, Michigan, then you will be paying more for gas prices at the gas station.

The Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are very good investments rather than a single stock as it contains many stocks in small proportions usually in the same sector. We can trade during market hours unlike mutual funds. However there are some ETFs with so much of leverages; We need to be very careful while playing with those funds.
